Das Bonnefanten Museum präsentiert Melati Suryodarmo als 11. Gewinnerin des Bonnefanten Award for Contemporary Art (BACA) mit einer ersten großen europäischen Einzelausstellung. Suryodarmo ist eine vielseitige Künstlerin und vor allem für ihre eindringlichen Performances bekannt. In ihren Werken überträgt sie soziopolitische Themen in eine poetische, körperliche Bildersprache.
Der Ausstellungstitel I am a Ghost in My Own House stammt von Suryodarmos gleichnamiger zwölfstündiger Performance. Im Verlauf dieser Performance zerkleinert sie mit einem Mörser aus Stein Holzkohle bis zur eigenen Erschöpfung. Die Werke in der Ausstellung umfassen neben Performances auch Videoinstallationen, Fotografien und Zeichnungen.
The Bonnefanten Museum presents Melati Suryodarmo as the eleventh winner of the Bonnefanten Award for Contemporary Art (BACA) with her first big solo exhibition in Europe and the Netherlands. Suryodarmo is a versatile artist, but is particularly known for her compelling performances. In her work, she interprets strong political and social insights in a poetic and physical visual idiom.
The exhibition title I am a Ghost in My Own House comes from Suryodarmo’s performance of the same name, which lasts for twelve hours. In this performance, she grinds charcoal on a stone mortar, exhausting herself. In addition to performances, the works in the exhibition include video installations, photographs and drawings.
