Im vergangenen Jahr wäre Ernst Wilhelm Nay 120 Jahre alt geworden. Aus diesem Anlass zeigt das MKM Museum Küppersmühle eine umfassende, retrospektiv angelegte Ausstellung mit Werken aus allen fünf Jahrzehnten seines künstlerischen Schaffens. Nay ist bis heute ein berühmter Protagonist der deutschen Nachkriegs-Moderne. Seine formale Abstraktion behauptete sich parallel zum Informel.
Die Ausstellung im MKM präsentiert rund 70 Gemälde, die alle Schaffensphasen von Nays Œuvre vorstellen. Beginnend mit seinen späten Bildern führt die Retrospektive chronologisch zurück durch die stilistisch und thematisch unterschiedlichen Stationen seines Werkes. Je nach Entstehungszeit faszinieren Nays Arbeiten durch ihre intensive Farb-Form-Interaktion, ihre Fläche-Raum-Komposition oder Figur-Grund-Korrelation

To mark the occasion, the MKM Museum Küppersmühle is showing a comprehensive, retrospective exhibition with works from all five decades of his artistic career. The exhibition at the MKM presents around 70 paintings covering all creative phases of Nay's oeuvre. Beginning with his late paintings, the retrospective leads chronologically back through the stylistically and thematically different stages of his work. Depending on the period in which they were created, Nay's works fascinate with their intensive colour-form interaction, their surface-space composition or figure-ground correlation.
