Wie lässt sich öffentlicher Raum heute definieren – und für wen ist er zugänglich? Mit public preposition untersucht Mischa Kuball diese Fragen unmittelbar im Stadtraum und überführt sie in den Ausstellungsraum des Baukunstarchivs NRW. Ausgangspunkt ist die Beobachtung, dass Öffentlichkeit kein statischer Zustand ist, sondern sich aus Beziehungen zwischen Orten, Menschen und Bewegungen formt. Kuball macht diese Beziehungsgeflechte sichtbar, indem er historische, politische und alltägliche Kontexte markiert und neu lesbar macht – in drei Interventionen im Dortmunder Stadtraum, in einer Ausstellung,die als fortlaufender Prozess angelegt ist, sowie einem vertiefenden Symposium.

How can public space be defined today – and who has access to it? With public preposition, Mischa Kuball examines these questions directly in urban space and transfers them to the exhibition space of the Baukunstarchiv NRW. The starting point is the observation that public space is not a static condition, but is formed by relationships between places, people and movements. Kuball makes these networks of relationships visible by highlighting historical, political and everyday contexts and rendering them legible in new ways – in three interventions in Dortmund's urban space, in an exhibition designed as an ongoing process, and in an in-depth symposium.
